Cromwell Junior & Infant School

Weather Update

Published: 22 Jun '26
Dear Parents and Carers,

With the warm weather set to continue this week, we wanted to update you on the measures we are taking to ensure all children remain safe, comfortable and happy throughout the school day.

Children are welcome to attend school in relaxed uniform, wearing loose, lightweight clothing suitable for the hot weather. We simply ask that clothing remains appropriate for school.

All classroom windows will be kept open where possible to improve ventilation, and fans will be in use throughout the school to help keep classrooms cool. Fresh drinking water will be available throughout the day, and school water bottles will be regularly topped up from our cold-water stations. Children will also take their water bottles outside during playtimes and outdoor activities to help them stay hydrated.

To minimise the impact of the heat, time spent outdoors will be reduced during the hottest parts of the day, and PE lessons will be adapted to ensure activities remain safe and enjoyable.

To further support families and reduce the amount of time spent waiting in the sun at the end of the day, all children will finish school at 3.00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This will allow parents and carers to collect all children at the same time and minimise waiting in the hot weather.

We are very fortunate to have access to our swimming pool, and swimming sessions for children in Years 3–6 will continue as planned, providing a fun way for children to cool off while remaining active.

Children in Nursery to Year 2 will also have opportunities to enjoy supervised paddling pool sessions, and class teachers will let you know when these will take place.

Mrs Darr has kindly purchased hydrating cooling wipes, which children will be able to access throughout the day to help them stay comfortable in the warmer temperatures.

Our caretaker will continue to carry out regular checks around the school to ensure classrooms and shared areas remain as cool and comfortable as possible.

Thank you for your continued support. We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure the children can enjoy their school day safely while making the most of the sunshine.

Kind regards,
The Senior Leadership Team
